"Well, here we go again. Four years ago Straight Shot was recorded live at the Sunbanks Blues Festival in 2003. This CD is the latest version of the band recorded at Sunbanks again in 2007. We've moved a little from straight blues to a variety of blues, funk, and R&B. However, the thing is, we're still having a ball playing the music we love. Paul Richardson was our guest on this date tearing it up on the keyboards. Howard Hooper on bass and Les Merrihew on drums are a rock steady rhythm section. Gary Ballard's guitar cuts through everything with great tone and some funky licks. Yours truly, Paul Green, handled most of the vocals and of course, that Mississippi sax. If ever you're in the Pacific Northwest we'd love to see you wherever we're playing. You can always check out our schedule or get in touch with us at: paulgreenblues.com Thanks for listening.." ---Paul Green (from the CD liner notes)

"What you hear is what you get. This is a live recording of the Straight Shot Band at the Sunbanks Blues Festival in Grand Coulee, Washington, on May 17, 2003. The band hails from Seattle and is comprised of myself, Paul Green on vocals and harp, Tim Sherman on guitar, Howard Hooper on bass, and Conrad Ormsby on drums. It was a rather chilly day when this was recorded, but with each successive tune we warmed to the occasion. It is straight ahead electric blues with no studio gimmicks. I think it reflects the passion and sincerity to which this band is committed to when it comes to playing the music we love. I hope you the audience are as moved by listening to this music as we were creating it." ---Paul Green (from the CD liner notes) |

"Imagine going to a really good party where these two guys with a guitar and a harmonica sing and play kickass blues all evening. The only thing that could be better is if you had a recording of it, right? Well, this is the recording. Tim Meyers recorded Cooke and Green's playing on a minidisk recorder and sent them a copy. When they heard it, they decided to issue it on CD. There are typical party background noises - applause, spontaneous shouts, etc. - but there's nothing lacking in the recording quality. It sounds good, and the full excitement of the moment comes through....These guys can play! Each of the tracks is blues, but the variety is wide - from down-home delta style, to an acoustic variation of big-city Chicago blues." ---Victory Review, May 2000 |

""Collectively, these five musicians are some of the finest and most professional players in the Seattle area. For two evenings this summer [1996], they gathered at Ballard's newest and finest addition to the Blues scene, Bad Albert's Tap and Grill in Old Ballard. The result of that meeting is this exceptional album. Although there are no original tunes on this CD, one can't really call this a 'cover' album. The creative arrangements and presentation make each cut an 'original'....This is a great CD for listening because these musicians are so accomplished that you're almost mesmerized by the way they ply their craft. But that doesn't mean some tunes don't make you want to get up and dance. The phenomenal talent on the part of all these great players is a gift indeed. I can't seem to get this CD out of my player for any length of time. This album belongs in the collection of every serious Blues lover." ---WA Blues Society Bluesletter, March 1997 |
